Description
"The Grays Ferry Bridge was closed the other day , and is going to be replaced by a $10 million , six-lane bridge . That was always a good spot ot cross the Schuykill . the Swedes were rowing across in that area long before William Penn . The first regular Schuykill ferry service licensed by Penn was at Market st. , about 1683 . Some people complained that it wasn't regular enough . About 1740 , the ferry franchise was bought by George Gray . That area has been called Grays Ferry ever since. "
