The photograph depicts a "blind dinner experiment " conducted as part of Attitudes Towards Blindness program of the American Foundation for the Blind . In the image , Stephen Eckstein of the Department of Public Assistance , can be seen (second from left) blindfolded , attempting to eat . To Mr . Eckstein's left , Harry Bassler , blind , offers him instruction on how to eat without being able to see .
