at ½ past 2 to inspect the boats on the Nile/
destined for our upward trip--to dine with/
his Grace at 6, & that we start on Monday/
at 10 a.m, with M de Lesseps, to inspect the/
Suez canal "& works & spend next week in/
that instructive work--So goodbye for the/
present, time being up. Tell Erxleben that/
I met an old friend of his--Mr. Simpson--on/
the Staff of the Illustratd {Times [crossed out]} News: he showed/
me the sketch of the apartment where the V. Roy/
received, on the night of the Ball, & it is/
very true & good. Will must get those/
numbers for you. There is also a/
French artist at work--wh. may appear in the/
Illust. Times.'--I have stood in two groups for/
photographs./
We had a royal dinner, smoked our/
long pipes after, then to the Theatre/
to the boxes secured for us. In the Vice Roy's/
Box was his youngest son, a lovely little/
Sister & her circassian[sic] slave of like age. To see/
the delight of those young people at the tricks/
and/
