EXPLORE OUTER SPACE!
The Moon Above, The Earth Below is the CBS
News 20th Anniversary Special that examines
Apollo 11's momentous 1969 voyage and paints a
lifestyle portrait of our nation during those hours
when the three-man spacecraft landed two astronaut explorers on the moon. It contains National
Aeronautic and Space Administration (NASA)
footage from the mission that was not available at
the time, together with film profiles shot by 43
:-:,..,,.,
CBS News crews who traveled across the country
to record Americans as they tended to their 1969
summer Sunday pursuits. Were the technology
available, this program might have been broadcast
on July 20, 1969. Now, two decades after the
moonwalk, CBS News opens a time capsule for
viewers of all ages, especially elementary and secondary school students
who were not even alive
when Apollo 11 made history. Dan Rather and
Charles Kuralt provide HHH
facts and aesthetic sensibilities that enlighten the
way we view our moon and inspire us to ask new
questions about infusing the study of outer space
into classroom learning.
